Latin Mass Parishes in Neighboring Dioceses
Archdiocese of Washington, D.C.
Effective Sept. 21, 2022, Cardinal Gregory has implemented Traditionis custodes in the Archdiocese of Washington, imposing heavy restrictions on the celebration of the traditional Latin Mass. The norms are to be reviewed after three years, i.e. in 2025.
Under these norms, only the Franciscan Monastery, Old St. John, and St. Dominic Mission are approved locations for the public celebration of the TLM.
Additionally, these norms restrict the public celebration of the TLM in the Archdiocese to Sundays only, and explicitly prohibit it on Christmas Day (even if it should fall on a Sunday), during the Sacred Triduum, on Easter Sunday, and on Pentecost Sunday.
Public celebrations of the traditional Divine Office are not implicated.
Besides the locations listed immediately below, residents of the Archdiocese of Washington may also be interested in options in neighboring jurisdictions: the closest would be St. Rita in Alexandria, Va., and St. John the Beloved in McLean, Va., which are both parishes of the Diocese of Arlington; and the National Shrine of St. Alphonsus Liguori in Baltimore, Md., which is in the Archdiocese of Baltimore and administered by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter.
Diocese of Richmond, Va.
Update effective January 2025: the Diocese of Richmond has received an extension of its TLM indult from Traditionis custodes, which will last until November 2026. Like the Diocese of Arlington, it comes with a Gotcha! Sunday condition for diocesan (non-FSSP) parishes. Holy Comforter in Charlottesville and All Saints in Floyd have resumed their TLMs on the schedules noted below. It is not yet clear if or when St. Joseph in Petersburg has or will resume.

Archdiocese of Baltimore, Md.

The two-year indult from Rome for traditional Latin Masses at diocesan parishes has expired without being renewed.
